Field defence practice in the frame of the LIFE SandBoil project (Gyor)

The event was mainly carried out in Győr (North-Western Hungary), where the press conference took place. In addition, two other nearby locations were involved. Both of them are target areas of the LIFE SandBoil project. During the event, the main infrastructures of the of the local flood protection system have been shown and some demonstrations of their functionality were carried out. The event was broadcasted via Facebook in a free and public way and involved 9 departments and ~200 employees of the Water Directorate. This strategy enabled to show different locations, which will be interested by the LIFE SandBoil project, and to include a larger audience. The event also included a presentation of the main actions of the LIFE SandBoil project by the University of Bologna, and that of the ICPDR (the International Commission for the Protection of the Danube River) and the EUSDR (the EU Strategy for the Danube Region) as umbrella Institutions of the Danube basin water management. The event was a unique and successful opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of the flood protection measures in an operative context.

AGENDA: 09:00-11:15 - introduction of the project by UNIBO and ÉDUVIZIG, results so far - flood risk management in the Danube Basin, presentations by ICPDR and EUSDR 11:15-12:00 - LIVE channel from Győr, Hungary, introduction of the situation and the measures at Iparcsatorna structure: temporal closures placed by crane and diving work assistance, mobile pumping station in operation - press conference held by OVF, ÉDUVIZIG and Municipality of Győr 13:00-14:30 - LIVE welcome by ÉDUVIZIG, screening the other locations of measures - Danube and Marcal primary dikes (temporal reinforcement of the dikes, localization of sandboils, running the pumping stations, lighting solutions etc.) - video footages of earlier events (2013 Danube flood, 2017 icy flood) and other relevant project information

Presentation of the Life SandBoil project within REMTECH EXPO- International event on Remediation, Coasts, Floods, Climate, Seismic, Regeneration, Industry (Ferrara)

RemTech (20-24 September 2021) is the most specialized event on the remediation of contaminated sites, the protection and redevelopment of the territory. The program focuses each year on the most topical and interesting topics, regulatory evolution, characterization, risk analysis, remediation technologies, research, innovation, monitoring, environmental controls, industry, sustainability. It also includes the States General of the Remediation, the National Conference of Industry on the Environment and Remediation and numerous technical insights and multidisciplinary debates at national and international level on case studies and real experiences. On 24 September, the Po River District Authority organized a discussion session focused on the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and the planning of interventions to mitigate risks and adapt the territory to climate changes. Within this session, Professor Laura Tonni (UNIBO) presented the LIFE SandBoil project (Nature based solution – Il Progetto LIFE SandBoil: nuove tecnologie NBS per gestire i fontanazzi lungo il Po e il Danubio).
